I hate hallmark cards. They are abysmal. Cards are meant to be meaningful, thoughtful, provocative, anything. Instead, they are overpriced cardboard with vapid, overused and unimaginative butchery of the English language. Originality is beauty, so I never buy cards, ever.

I wanted to do something special for my girlfriend this valentines day. A lot of people have issues with an atheist/humanist approach to love. It's a biochemical reaction that causes attachment and empathy between human beings. There is no magic, there is only love. But I've always thought that only a proper understanding of our true nature can allow our actions to be true as well.

I was playing with typography and liked this format. I meddled with various typefaces for a while but I like the way this turned out, simple effective, and powerful. (albeit slightly morbid) I took a horrid forsaken hallmark holiday of cheap chocolate and overpriced flora and made the meaning my own.

A lot of people talk about eternal love, or soul mates, but these are concepts that are meaningless. I can only promise the time I have. And everything I have is for you.

Note: If you download the original it is in 1280x800 which makes an excellent background for most widescreen laptops.

(Thank you to A Softer World for the inspiration, and for being an endless source of humor and beauty)

(Another thank you to GeneralVyse for his fantastic parchment stock photography: [link])

Edit: Thank you for all the favorites everyone! I'm really excited that this has gotten so much attention.

Awww that's beautiful! :aww: And I like our (atheists) approach to love, we know it's real and not just a figment of our imaginations. It's measurable and proven to be real.

I do certainly agree! The cards that we get in Hallmark today is not the same as it used to. 20 years ago, it used to be very meaningful, and the words were remarkable. They used to make cards that are VALUABLE from a form of one's affection to another.

And not you have UTTER COMPLETE CRAP! LOOOAAADS OF CRAP that are actually being SOLD in the market today. And additionally, the funny thing about the world today abides by what Rod Handerheim stated, "Everyone today BUYS $HIT! They don't know what's worth anymore."

And I second that motion. Originality and Individuality is Beauteous Form Of All.

This is really interesting. I don't really have any words to explain myself. But this definately struck a cord deep within me. Nice work.
